Stock tip: Women's Ways Work:

When it comes to investing, men are from Mars and women are from Venus. What's more, evidence suggests women could teach men a thing or two about the markets. when the National Association of Investors Corporation polled all-male and all-female investment clubs in 1999, they found that all-female clubs had average annual returns of 32.1 percent, almost 10 percentage points higher than all-male clubs. Compounded annually, 10 percent adds up to a lot.

Women get their investing edge because they tend to research stocks more, says Lisa Kraynak, executive vice president of iVillage Money Life, one of several Web sites that cater to female investors. "Women like to get a lot of information," she says. "They like to get a lot of people's opinions."

Men, by contrast, are more apt to jump in blindly when they see the chance for quick money, Kraynak says. "Women approach money more as a lifestyle and life choice that they make," Kraynak says. "Men say: 'I want to buy this or achieve that.' Women say: 'I would love to be able to not worry about college tuition, or ensure a comfortable retirement for my aging mother.'

Women invest better because they have a greater incentive to manage their finances successfully, Kraynak says. Statistics show women live longer, meaning their retirement savings must last longer. Women are also more likely to find themselves raising a family as a single parent.
